MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The 14th edition of the Congresso Norte-Nordeste e Centro-Oeste de Cirurgia Torácica will be held at the Manaus Plaza Shopping & Convention Center on September 3, 4 and 5, 2026. This will be the second time Manaus has hosted this important congress, following the 3rd edition held in the city in 2002. Since then, Manaus has hosted other relevant events in the field, such as the 2011 National Thorax Congress and seven editions of the Thoracic Oncology Symposium.

The development of scientific events is closely linked to the growth of thoracic surgery in Manaus, which began in 1991 with the establishment of the Thoracic Surgery Service at Getúlio Vargas University Hospital, the first of its kind in the State of Amazonas. In addition, in 2002, the Thoracic Surgery Medical Residency Program was established at the same hospital. To date, it has trained four thoracic surgery specialists and contributed to the education of approximately 90 general surgery residents.

The North-Northeast Congress is a scientific event that brings together thoracic surgeons and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment and research of thoracic diseases. Its purpose is to promote continuing education and the exchange of knowledge among participants through lectures, debates, scientific presentations and clinical case discussions.

In 2017, the Congresso Norte-Nordeste e Centro-Oeste de Cirurgia Torácica (CONNECT) was established, with one of its main purposes being to organize this biennial congress in different cities, while respecting regional interests and promoting the participation of specialists in the field. In 2026, Manaus will be the host city, and we are preparing an event filled with knowledge and innovation.
